On the 8th of May 2014, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence launched its on-going Beach Clean-up Campaign. The campaign is an initiative of the CEO, Mr Mthokozisi Radebe, in an effort to create awareness amongst patrons on the work that the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence does especially at the beach. Some may have heard of the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board; however, we are not visible during the day when most beach goers are visiting the beach. In other capacities the organisation is renowned as an organisation which is solely intent on catching and killing sharks. With this in mind, this campaign seeks to alter the perceptions which the general population have of the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence.
Coincidentally, on the 17th of June 2014, the President of the Republic of South Africa, the Honourable, Mr Gedleyihlekisa Jacob Zuma, called for the Nation to embark on intense clean-up of country during the 2014 Mandela Day. In response to this call, KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence took a decision to push the clean-up date for June so that it coincides with this call. We therefore urge the public, the Patrons and anyone who shares our sentiments in as far as the environment and beach Tourism is concerned, to join forces with KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence on the 18th July 2014 and dedicate 67 minutes to massive Beach Clean-up.
The Clean- up will take place in all protected beaches along the Coastline of KwaZulu-Natal from Richards Bay in the North down to Port Edward in the South. Protected Beaches are as follows:
