Media personality and professional model, Vanessa Marawa has won the second evening of Gateway’s Celebrity Chef Showdown where she competed with international actress, Terry Pheto on Wednesday 3 September.
The competition took place at Circus Circus. “I’m so excited about winning because this campaign is charity focused. 10% of the proceeds made from the evening will go towards helping those that are in need and that really warms my heart,” says Vanessa.
Vanessa’s winning menu comprised of; roasted plum tomato and goat cheese tart with rocket, pine nuts, aged balsamic and basil dressing for starters; stuffed saddle of Karoo lamb, sundried tomato and Italian herb mousse, grilled polenta cake, buttered French beans and olive jus for the main course and a honey roasted peach tart tatin and vanilla crème anglais for dessert. “I didn’t even know what polenta was before participating in Gateway’s Celebrity Chef Showdown and now I’ve come away with learning how to make grilled polenta cake,” says Vanessa.
When asked about the highlights of the evening Vanessa said, “When the announcement was made that I had won, I couldn’t believe it. I was so sure that Terry would win. The crowd of people that attended had such a great energy about them. I also want to thank Soti and Wendy for having us. The entire Circus Circus team was amazing!”
Visitors to Gateway are invited to make bookings to attend any of the four remaining evenings in order to enjoy a night of good food, entertainment and healthy competition.
On each of the restaurant’s evenings, the meals prepared by the celebrities will be in line with the restaurants normal menu offering. Times are 18h30 for 19h00 at R180 per person for a set menu which includes; a starter, main and dessert.

All winning celebs will take part in a final evening which will be held on 1 October at Beluga.
Each celebrity that competes will select a local charity of their choice at the start of the campaign. 10% of the income generated through these events will be donated to the winning celebrity’s charity of choice.
