The AHi’s National Congress will be held at the Sibaya Conference Centre and Casino in KwaZulu Natal on Friday 10th October 2014 from 8h30 until 15h00. The overall theme of the Congress is ‘What is necessary for business to thrive’.
Speakers include the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Pravin Gordhan who will speak to what it takes for business to thrive from a local government perspective and Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu who will focus on the role of her Ministry in this regard.
Speakers from the private sector includes Mr Willie Lategan, Executive Head of Barclays Africa Financial Services who will speak to what it takes for business to thrive from a financing and business banking perspective and Theo Voster, CEO of Galileo Capital who will focus on what it takes for business to thrive from an economic perspective.
Activities planned from Wednesday 8th until Friday 10th October 2014 entail various business network sessions, workshops for young entrepreneurs, strategic planning discussions, AGM, Conference and Gala evening. The winners of this year’s awards for the best managed local chambers, long service to the AHi, innovative start-ups and outstanding business leadership in South Africa will be announced at the gala evening on Friday evening, 10 October 2014.
The AHi is particularly proud of its Small Business Start-Up Project aimed at developing an entrepreneurial culture amongst the youth in South Africa. More than 600 young entrepreneurs attended various courses presented by the AHi in collaboration with local business chambers for the past two years and competent and dedicated mentors and advisors are also made available to support them in their endeavours to build sustainable businesses.
From this group the top 16 young entrepreneurs were invited to attend the AHi Congress and to receive awards at the AHi Gala evening. The selection of these entrepreneurs was based on their leadership qualities, commitment, innovativeness and quality of business plans submitted. They are among others Girshwin Jansen (M) from Bluzest Cleaning Company; Lungiswa Verica Lloyd from African Queens Cooperative specialising in beading, sewing and traditional make-up; Nosiphiwo Gloria Qumba from Sokumla Takeaways; Philip Swanepoel (M) from Philpotts Consultancy; Yolindie Matthys from Hantam Media and Manton Gcobani Ntsendwana from Thembalethu Garden Services (Pty) Ltd.
