Acoustic Rock musician, Ard Matthews has been a household name for many South Africans over the years. Not only making a name for himself but also with his band Just Jinger and not only locally but internationally as well. We were lucky enough to catch him live at the Bush Tavern in Umdloti at the beginning of April for a charity fund raiser and farewell gig – accompanied on drums by the very talented Jude Kenrick.
I have heard of the Bush Tavern before but had never been myself and to be quite honest the name had me under the assumption it would be quite rustic, perhaps a bit dingy and dark but I was pleasantly surprised! The pub / restaurant had a modern feel to it with the most beautiful sea view, an extensive menu (not just pub food) and more importantly the food was good and the portion sizes decent. With happy hours and weekday specials, I will be back!
The crowd thickened as the evening progressed, Ard had everyone up on their feet dancing and singing along (myself included). I felt a bit stalker-ish but managed to snap a few amateur photos on my phone which are up in the gallery.
Mr Matthews, if you are reading this, we at Durbanite wish you all the best for your new and exciting path – we know your heart will always be with us in Durban and we look forward to many more live performances in the future!
