Being a Durbanite means summer never really ends, but with us being halfway through winter, now is the best time to start getting into shape! I’m sure everyone has heard about the GetFit challenges going on across our awesome province.
GetFit was started in 2008 and has exploded (much like the explosive exercises in the training!) into a company promoting a healthier and fitter lifestyle!
“The GETFIT Challenge has grown from strength to strength since its inception in 2008 and its participants have achieved some fantastic results, including improved fitness levels, body toning, muscle strength and weight loss.
The Challenge runs for a 12-week period, during which time participants attend a 1-hour group training session once, twice or three times a week. The sessions include a combination of cardio and weight training exercises aimed at increasing fitness levels and improving muscle strength or tone. The sessions are run by personal trainers who monitor correct form and encourage participants to ensure optimum results are achieved. The group training sessions are a great way to stay motivated and maintain high levels of enthusiasm!”
Being the adventurous bunch we are, we decided to give it a shot! Our Friends over at GetFit Morningside allowed our soon to be married Business Development Director, Duncan (That’s me!) to join in on the 6 week challenge.
This will be a series of articles, tracking my progress through the six weeks as well as my fitness. With one week down, all I can say is that this is probably the most challenged I have been with regards to training, both physically and mentally in my life. I can already feel a difference though, after the initial stiffness subsides, there is almost a euphoria in knowing that you are getting stronger and faster!
Kelly and Mari are the inhouse personal trainers at GetFit Morningside. I must admit, I have always trained either with a partner or alone and I was very apprehensive about group training or have a personal trainer. That view has now definitely changed, these women are fantastic at what they do, being supportive yet pushing you harder every session, it is awesome!
When you sign up you are given an assessment that looks at your fitness level, body fat % and weight, after which you are given a fantastic eating plan and the goal wieght / BF % you should try reach by the end of the challenge.
So to kick it off, here are my stats and feel free to follow me through he journey!
